About My Guitar Lessons Screaming Leads

How I Teach Lead Guitar (Page 2 of 2)

When it comes to either improvising or parroting, there are certain things that your fingers must be able to do... It all comes down to moving those fingers very, very quickly and very, very precisely.

First, there are a group of finger exercises I teach. These exercises get your finger coordination working well. They're a pain in the ass, but they work wonders.

Next... There are 5 Pentatonic scales, and 7 forms of the Major and Minor Diatonic Scale (also known as "The Modes"). When you know these you can play anywhere up and down the neck.

If there's a particular solo you want me to teach you, then bring in the tape or CD. I'll write it out in "tablature" so you can practice it at home.

If improvisation is your thing, then that's what we do. We cover the above mentioned scales as well as "Licks, Taps and Whistles". I turn on the drum machine, and you wail away.
